Spigot Silencer
The Elta Spigot Silencer is a compact circular duct attenuator with a spigot connection, designed to reduce duct borne noise on smaller ventilation systems. It is particularly useful where you need cross talk reduction between rooms, plus a simple connection into flexible ducting or spiral ducting.

Construction
Rigid galvanised sheet steel casing with a highly absorbent sound attenuating lining between the outer casing and an inner perforated steel lining. Instead of threaded fixing holes on the end faces, the silencer uses a steel spigot for easier mounting into ductwork.
Kitchen extract option
For kitchen extract applications, Melinex lined silencers must be used to prevent grease impregnation into the acoustic media, as prescribed in DW/172 HVAC Specification For Kitchen Ventilation Systems.

Understanding silencer performance
Silencer attenuation is stated as dynamic insertion loss. To estimate the sound level of a fan fitted with a silencer, subtract the dynamic insertion loss values from the fan sound power level spectrum (dBW) across the full octave band mid frequency range. Achieved attenuation varies with air velocity and flow pattern and noise regeneration can occur at higher velocities, especially in EP silencers.
Selection tip
Choose the spigot diameter to match the duct first, then select the length based on the level of attenuation required and the space available. For kitchen extract, specify the Melinex lined option. Where circular silencers cannot achieve the required attenuation in noise sensitive areas, splitter silencers can be designed as an alternative.
